How Polio Affects the Muscular System
Polio has a very strong effect on the muscular system. People who are infected
with polio often become paralyzed, which is when one part of the body becomes
stiff, and you the brain loses control of that body part. Therefor, the body
part is so longer useful, and any connection that the nervs once had with that
body part are no longer active. This greatly affects the muscular system,
because you need muscles to move your body. When a part of the body becomes
paralyzed, the muscle(s) lose any nerv connection, causing the muscle to be
inactive. When a muscle doesn't work for a long time, its starts to get very
weak, and muscle mass starts to fade. To prevent this, the paralyzed body part
will most likely be amputated. Amputation is also common in people with polio.
